Introduction

Welcome to the Section 504 page of Community Christian Academy & Preschool. As a leading educational institution in the South River area, we are committed to providing inclusive educational opportunities to all students. Through a collaborative effort with the South River Board of Education, we offer comprehensive Section 504 services that cater to the unique needs of students with disabilities.

What is Section 504?

Section 504 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. It aims to ensure equal access to education, as well as other programs and activities, for students who may need accommodations or additional support. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 applies to public schools, like Community Christian Academy & Preschool, that receive federal financial assistance.

Eligibility and Accommodations

To qualify for Section 504 services, a student must have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Major life activities include, but are not limited to, learning, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, and caring for oneself. Disabilities covered under Section 504 may include, but are not limited to, mobility impairments, chronic health conditions, communication disorders, and specific learning disabilities.

At Community Christian Academy & Preschool, we have a dedicated team of professionals who assess student eligibility for Section 504 services. This team includes educators, school administrators, and special education experts who collaborate to ensure accurate and fair evaluations. Once a student qualifies for Section 504 accommodations, an individualized plan is developed to meet their specific needs.

Individualized Section 504 Plans

An Individualized Section 504 Plan (ISP) is created for each eligible student. This plan outlines the accommodations, modifications, and support services necessary to provide equal access to education. The ISP is tailored to the unique needs of the student and may include provisions such as extended time for assignments, preferential seating, assistive technology, modified curriculum, and additional support from qualified staff.

Collaboration with Parents, Educators, and Support Staff

At Community Christian Academy & Preschool, we strongly believe in the power of collaboration. We work closely with parents, educators, and support staff to ensure that every student's Section 504 needs are addressed comprehensively. Our team holds regular meetings to review and update the ISP, discuss progress, and make necessary adjustments to provide the best learning experience for each student.

Resources and Support

Community Christian Academy & Preschool is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. In addition to the services provided under Section 504, we offer a range of resources and support to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Our school counselors, specialized educators, and support staff are available to provide guidance, interventions, and personalized attention as needed.

Parents/guardians, educators, and students can also access various external resources and organizations that focus on disability rights, support services, and advocacy. Some recommended resources include the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, which provides information on Section 504 regulations, and local advocacy groups that specialize in disability-related matters.
